Renault Laguna —
the last PRV V6 Renault

In the mid-size saloon, the Safrane's 3.0-litre Z7X takes code 760 — phase 1 only. It is the most frequent confusion in the whole family: the 24-valve phase 2 Laguna gets the 60° L7X, which is not a PRV.

One code only: Z7X 760

Six cylinders in a 90° V, transverse, 2,963 cc, 9.6 compression ratio: the 1993 Pub et Trade workshop sheet gives 125 kW (170 bhp) at 5,500 rpm and 24.5 daNm at 4,500 — one daNm more than the Safrane, on the same engine. Closed-loop, catalysed Siemens multipoint injection, 55-way S 103 715 100 ECU housed behind the right headlamp, PK1 gearbox or AD8 automatic. The rest of the family is on the Z7X file.

The 24-valve trap

From mid-1997 on the Laguna — and only April 1999 on the Safrane — the 60° « PR » V6, L7X at Renault and ES9 at Peugeot, replaced the PRV. It is a completely different, 24-valve engine, and only the PRV versions belong on this site. The Laguna kept the choice between manual and automatic with the L7X, while the Safrane lost its manual.

The full table of Z7X variants — from the 150 bhp American versions to the 268 bhp Safrane Biturbo — is on the Z7X file; PSA's 24-valve, for its part, is the ZPJ4.

A last one, and a rejected prototype

The last production PRV V6 Renault

That is how the Library presents the Z7X 760 sheet: the last production PRV V6 Renault, six cylinders in a 90° V mounted transversely. The last Douvrin V6 left the line on 15 June 1998, after 970,315 units; the phase 1 Laguna had left the PRV a year earlier.

The stillborn Laguna Biturbo

Around 1995, Hartge built a Laguna Biturbo prototype on the same block: the twin-turbo 3.0 L PRV taken to 280 bhp in a much lighter front-wheel-drive car, 0-100 km/h in about 7 seconds. Burned by the Safrane Biturbo's flop, Renault refused production — about five to seven cars were built. The story is in the Journal article « Safrane Biturbo — the German rival, prepared in Germany ».

An engine mount that is not hers

On cars fitted with the PRV V6, the engine mounts are not hydraulic. The dome-shaped hydraulic mount with its fluid section that turns up among « Laguna 1 » parts belongs to the G8T diesel Laguna — not to the V6.

Renault Laguna The full FAQ →
PRV ?
Is the Renault Laguna V6 a PRV?
Only the phase 1 Laguna 3.0 V6 12-valve (Z7X, 167 bhp) is a PRV. From 1997 — and only in April 1999 on the Safrane — a 60° “PR” V6 — L7X at Renault, ES9 at Peugeot — replaced the PRV on the Laguna, Espace, 605 and XM. That engine is not a PRV. Safrane · Laguna · Espace file →
Alimentation
What fuel pressures and flow on a Laguna V6?
Walbro pump immersed in the tank, 12 V, 3 bar, 80 l/h minimum; regulator at 3 ± 0.2 bar with no vacuum and 2.5 ± 0.2 bar under 0.50 bar of vacuum; Bendix Deka 1 injectors of 14.5 ± 0.5 Ω; Solex Ø 55 mm throttle body, mark 974; Hitachi AESP 207.10 idle control valve; Bosch pulsation damper. Pressure is checked with tool Mot. 1311 fitted in place of the pulsation damper and the 0-10 bar gauge of Mot. 836-05, pump relay (236) bridged between its terminals 3 and 5: you must read 3 ± 0.2 bar. Fuel: unleaded RON 95, RON 91 being accepted. Pub et Trade sheet REN-75D, 1993.
Sondes
What do the temperature sensors and oxygen sensor of a Laguna V6 read?
Siemens NTC air and coolant sensors: 7,470 to 11,970 Ω at 0 °C, 3,060 to 4,045 Ω at 20 °C, 1,315 to 1,600 Ω at 40 °C, 300 to 370 Ω at 80 °C, 210 to 270 Ω at 90 °C. Heated NTK oxygen sensor: over 625 mV rich, 0 to 80 mV lean. Idle 700 ± 50 rpm, not adjustable — no initial timing nor advance-curve check, everything is set by the injection-ignition ECU. Pub et Trade sheet REN-75D, 1993.
Allumage
What ignition and which spark plugs on a Laguna V6?
Static ignition with three twin-output HT coils and a two-stage power switching module — advance laws built into the ECU. Eyquem RFC 58 LS 3 spark plugs, 1.2 mm gap, 2 to 3 daNm torque: the same reference as the Safrane 722/723. Valeo D6R A45 starter; Valeo A 11 VI 30 or A 11 VI 55 alternator — 13.5 V, 80 or 105 A at 6,000 rpm —, built-in regulator. Pub et Trade sheet REN-75D, 1993.
Capacités
What capacities and oil pressure on a Laguna V6?
Fuel tank 66 l; engine oil 6.0 l; manual gearbox 2.6 l; automatic 4 l at a drain; cooling system 10 l, expansion-tank valve rated at 1.2 bar — brown, the same value as on the Safrane. Oil pressure at 80 °C: 2.2 bar at 700 ± 50 rpm, 4.4 bar at 4,000 rpm. Pub et Trade sheet REN-75D, 1993.
Collecteur
How is the inlet manifold removed on a Laguna V6?
Battery disconnected, upper engine cover (4 screws) removed, harness unclipped from the lifting eye and the two cover brackets, front-bank plug leads moved back, HT lead retaining plate removed (4 screws and 1 nut, with the two plastic anti-rotation spacers), air-filter sleeve removed. Then disconnect the hoses of the idle valve, the absolute-pressure sensor, the oil-vapour recirculation, the regulator vacuum, the canister purge solenoid and the brake servo, then the connectors of the air sensor, idle valve, throttle potentiometer and engine-speed sensor; the fuel feed (green mark) and return (red mark) pipes; the six injectors; the regulator-pulsation damper assembly and the two fuel rails — recovering every heat-insulating shim —; the throttle cable and the cruise-control diaphragm link; and finally the four manifold bolts on the heads, before drawing the manifold-throttle body assembly forward. On refitting: new manifold gaskets, heat shims back under every rail and regulator fixing, pneumatic lines and harnesses reconnected with care. Pub et Trade sheet REN-75D, 1993.
Biturbo
What is the Laguna Biturbo?
A Hartge prototype from around 1995: the 3.0-litre bi-turbo PRV lifted to 280 bhp in a far lighter front-wheel-drive car. Burned by the Safrane Biturbo's flop, Renault refused production — around five to seven were built.
