The catalysed 2,849 cc Z7W 707 took the PRV into the MPV: the same engine, under the same code, as the 153 bhp catalysed Renault 25. It is the only MPV in the whole history of the Douvrin V6 — after eleven makes and twenty-seven road models, the engine ended its career with the family.
The 2.8-litre is the PRV of the transition: on the Renault 25 and the Espace V6, Renix-Bendix electronic multipoint injection — never K-Jetronic —, three-way catalyst and 153 bhp. Everything known about the 707 comes from the workshop sheet of the catalysed Renault 25 V6 Baccara, which carries the same engine; the other 2.8-litres are on the Z7W file.
Eleven makes, twenty-six road cars and the civilian Peugeot P4 V6 series received the Douvrin V6; the Espace is the only MPV on the list. With the Safrane and the phase 1 Laguna it closes Renault's PRV chapter: from 1997 the 60° « PR » V6 — L7X at Renault, ES9 at Peugeot — took over on Safrane, Laguna, Espace, 605 and XM. That engine is not a PRV.
The last Douvrin V6 left the line on 15 June 1998, after 970,315 units. The two other 2.8-litres — the Renault 25's Z7W 706 and the Alpine GTA's Z6W — are on the Z7W file.
No manual specific to the Espace V6 is in the Library yet — if you own one, the Contribute page awaits you. But its engine is: the Pub et Trade workshop sheet of the catalysed Renault 25 V6 Baccara describes the Z7W 706/707, pressures, sensors, ignition and spark plugs included. The vehicle-specific figures there — capacities, speeds, consumption — are the R25's, not the Espace's.
The 2.8-litre is the PRV of the transition: the Alpine GTA's Z6W-A keeps the first generation's non-offset crankshaft and its two valve-timing laws — one per cylinder bank — while the Renault 25's Z7W 706 moves to Renix electronic injection. The catalysed Z7W 707 gives 153 bhp on the R25 as on the Espace.
The Z7W 706/707 sheet prescribes Eyquem C 72 LJS spark plugs gapped at 0.75 to 0.85 mm and torqued to 1.5 to 2 daNm; the next-generation Z7X of the Safrane takes RFC 58 LS3s at 1.2 mm torqued to 2.5 to 3 daNm. Two PRVs, two sets of figures: each sheet applies to ITS engine.
