Talbot Tagora —
the most powerful 2.7-litre

Eleven makes fitted the PRV — and two of them stand apart from the founding trio's orbit. The short-lived Talbot Tagora is the first: its big saloon received the carburetted 2,664 cc with 166 bhp, the most powerful version of the 2.7-litre ever fitted in a road car, ahead even of the Alpine A310's 150 bhp.

A carburetted 2.7-litre — and a code we do not infer

The Tagora's engine is the first-generation carburetted 2,664 cc — the one Peugeot codes ZM on the 504 and 604, and Renault Z6V on the R30: non-offset crankpins, uneven firing, 12 valves. PRV engine codes are only ever Peugeot, Renault or Volvo, and the code specific to the Tagora version is not documented on this site: we do not infer it.

Outside the trio's orbit

Two unexpected guests among eleven makes

Beyond Peugeot, Renault and Volvo, the Douvrin V6 slipped into eight other makes — Alpine, Venturi, Citroën, Talbot, Lancia, DeLorean, Dodge and Eagle. Two of them stand apart: the Tagora, a French meteor with the family's most powerful 2.7-litre, and the Lancia Thema 6V, the list's only Italian, with the Peugeot 505's ZN3J.

The 27 road cars are on the Vehicles page; the American chapter — Eagle Premier, Medallion, Dodge Monaco — has its own files.

Seven cars, one summit

The seven with carburettors

Seven road cars had a carburetted PRV V6: Peugeot 504 and 604 (2.7 L, 136 bhp), Renault 30 (131 bhp), Volvo 260 (125 bhp), Alpine A310 V6 (150 bhp), Talbot Tagora (166 bhp — the most powerful of the carburetted 2.7s) and, alone in 2.8 L, the naturally aspirated Alpine GTA (160 bhp).

What the family knows of the 2,664

The family figures of the first-generation 2.7-litre — about 152 kg dressed, four crankshaft main bearings, two different valve-timing diagrams depending on the bank — come from the Alpine A310 guide and the Renault 30 manual, the two workshop sources for the carburetted 2,664. None of it is specific to the Tagora.

No document, for now

No document specific to the Tagora V6 is in the Library yet — if you own one, the Contribute page awaits you. A period workshop sheet or technical review would at last establish its engine code and settings.

Does the Talbot Tagora have a PRV V6?
Yes: a 166 bhp carburetted 2,664 cc — the most powerful 2.7-litre version in a road car. Tagora & Thema file →
Carburateurs
Which cars have a carburetted PRV V6?
Seven models: Peugeot 504 and 604 (2.7-litre, 136 bhp), Renault 30 (131 bhp), Volvo 260 (125 bhp), Alpine A310 V6 (150 bhp), Talbot Tagora (166 bhp — the most powerful carburetted 2.7) and, the only 2.8, the naturally-aspirated Alpine GTA (160 bhp). All vehicles →
Codes
Did Alpine, DeLorean, Lancia or Eagle have PRV engine codes of their own?
No. Every PRV V6 carries a code from one of the three partners: the Douvrin Z-codes at Renault (Z6V, Z7V, Z7U, Z7W, Z7X) and at Peugeot — shared with Citroën within PSA (ZM, ZMJ, ZNJ, ZN3J, ZPJ, ZPJ4) — and the B-codes at Volvo (B27, B28, B280). The other marques bought the engine as it was: Alpine under Renault codes (Z7U in the GTA Turbo, Z7X 744 in the A610), DeLorean under the Peugeot ZMJ (ZMJ-159 variant), Eagle and Dodge under the Z7X (711 and 715), Lancia under the ZN3J, Venturi under Z7U, Z7W and ZPJ4 units prepared by EIA. No carmaker ever struck a PRV code in its own name. Every known code →
Poids
How much does a PRV V6 weigh?
About 152 kg with its ancillaries, according to the Renault 30 manual — the first car to receive it. The manual also gives the complete unit: 225 kg for the « engine + manual gearbox » assembly, 240 kg for « engine + automatic gearbox ». These figures are for the 2,664 cc of 1975; they give the order of magnitude of what you lift when you take a PRV out. Renault 30 M.R.167, folio B-3.
Paliers
How many main bearings does the PRV V6 crankshaft have?
Four, never five — the consequence of a V6's three crankpins, where an inline six lines up five. Three factory manuals say so in the same words, twenty years apart: the Renault 30 M.R.167 of March 1975 (folio B-9), the Alpine A310 2700 VA repair guide (folio B-10) and the Renault « Z engines » workshop manual, which adds « all types » (folio 10-35). M.R.167 folio B-9 · A310 guide folio B-10 · Z engines manual folio 10-35.
Épure
Do both cylinder banks of the PRV V6 share the same valve timing?
No. The Renault 30 M.R.167 gives two separate columns, for a theoretical clearance of 0.7 mm: left bank (A) — inlet opens 9° BTDC and closes 45° ABDC, exhaust opens 45° BBDC and closes 9° ATDC; right bank (B) — 7° and 43° at all four points. Two degrees separate the banks. Renault 30 M.R.167, folio B-8.
Soupapes
What are the valve seat angles of the PRV V6?
30° on the inlet, 45° on the exhaust — the two are not cut at the same angle. Seat widths follow: 1.7 mm inlet, 2 mm exhaust. Stem diameter is 8 mm for both, and head diameters are 44 mm inlet against 37 mm exhaust. The camshafts run in four bearings, with 0.07 to 0.14 mm end float. Renault 30 M.R.167, folio B-7.
