The elegant 504 Coupé and Cabriolet are among the very first cars to receive the PRV: the carburetted 2,664 cc, code ZM, 136 bhp — the most elegant way to travel behind the Douvrin V6.
At Peugeot the Douvrin V6 gets an in-house code — PRV engine codes are only ever Peugeot, Renault or Volvo. The ZM is the first-generation carburetted 2,664 cc: non-offset crankpins, uneven firing, 136 bhp. It powers the 504 Coupé and Cabriolet, and the 604 SL.
By the end of 1975, at least five PRV V6 models were on sale, barely a year after the Volvo 264 that led the way in October 1974. The 504 Coupé and Cabriolet and the big 604 saloon flew the lion's colours in that first wave, with the same carburetted ZM; the 505 V6 would later carry the lion's V6 up to 170 bhp.
Peugeot's PRV codes — ZM, ZMJ, ZNJ, ZN3J, then ZPJ and ZPJ4 — are detailed code by code on the Engines page.
The coupé and the cabriolet receive the carburetted 2,664 cc, 136 bhp — the most elegant way to travel behind the Douvrin V6. Seven road cars had a carburetted PRV V6: Peugeot 504 and 604 (2.7 L, 136 bhp), Renault 30 (131 bhp), Volvo 260 (125 bhp), Alpine A310 V6 (150 bhp), Talbot Tagora (166 bhp — the most powerful of the carburetted 2.7s) and, alone in 2.8 L, the naturally aspirated Alpine GTA (160 bhp).
The 604 carried the PRV through its whole career — carburetted SL, K-Jetronic injected Ti and STI, 155 bhp GTI with the 2,849 cc — and the 505 V6 carried the 170 bhp LH-Jetronic ZN3J, the most powerful of the three. The sequel is written with the 605 and its 200 bhp 24-valve.
No document specific to the 504 V6 is in the Library yet — if you own one, the Contribute page awaits you. Meanwhile, the 2.7-litre's family figures — weight, main bearings, valve timing — come from the first manual of a PRV car, the Renault 30's.
The family figures of the first-generation 2.7-litre — drawn from the Renault 30 manual (March 1975), the same engine out of Douvrin, no Peugeot document being in the Library yet — and the FAQ answers that concern her.
No Peugeot document for the 504 V6; the first-generation 2.7-litre is documented by the Renault 30 manual: M.R.167 Renault 30 — the first-generation 2,664 cc
