The ZPJ is PSA's reading of the 3.0 litre 12-valve: 2,975 cc, bore × stroke 93 × 73 mm, 9.5 compression ratio, 170 bhp DIN at 5,600 rpm. One engine for the Peugeot 605 and the Citroën XM — Peugeot codes apply group-wide — which a Douvrin cousin, Renault's Z7X, matches displacement for displacement.
In the 605 era Peugeot struck only one code for two marques: the 605's ZPJ is the XM V6's, identically — Citroën Technical Note no. 4 says so in as many words about the S6A version to 15-04 standards for export: “the engine is identical to the ZPJ, only the engine number changes”. Fenix 3B injection, 750 rpm idle governed by a solenoid valve, mapped ignition: nothing is adjusted by hand.
Its displacement is exactly that of the Alpine A610's Z7X-744 and of the American 3.0 in the Eagle Premier and Dodge Monaco: 2,975 cc. And it is on its block that PSA built, from 1990, the 200 bhp 24-valve ZPJ4 with ACAV variable intake — 62-link chains instead of 64, its own heads and timing. After 1997 a 60° “PR” V6, the ES9, replaces the PRV on the 605 and XM: that engine is not here.
