The ZNJ is the 2,849 cc with K-Jetronic mechanical injection that Peugeot reserved for the 604 GTI: 155 bhp, the most powerful of the 604's three PRVs — after the carburetted ZM (136 bhp) and the injected ZMJ (144 bhp). One code, one car.

Three PRVs for one saloon

The 604 received three PRV V6s depending on the version: the 136 bhp carburetted ZM · ZMS on the SL, the 144 bhp K-Jetronic ZMJ on the Ti and STI, and the 155 bhp ZNJ on the GTI — the step from 2.7 to 2.8 litres, the same displacement as the Volvo B28 and the DeLorean's ZMJ-159.

K-Jetronic mechanical injection equips six PRV models: the 604 (144 then 155 bhp), the Renault 30 TX and Renault 25 (144 bhp), the Volvo 260 then 760 (140 to 155 bhp) and the DeLorean (130 bhp). The ZNJ is its most powerful version at Peugeot, before the 505 moved to electronic injection with the 170 bhp ZN3J.

Did Alpine, DeLorean, Lancia or Eagle have PRV engine codes of their own?
No. Every PRV V6 carries a code from one of the three partners: the Douvrin Z-codes at Renault (Z6V, Z7V, Z7U, Z7W, Z7X) and at Peugeot — shared with Citroën within PSA (ZM, ZMJ, ZNJ, ZN3J, ZPJ, ZPJ4) — and the B-codes at Volvo (B27, B28, B280). The other marques bought the engine as it was: Alpine under Renault codes (Z7U in the GTA Turbo, Z7X 744 in the A610), DeLorean under the Peugeot ZMJ (ZMJ-159 variant), Eagle and Dodge under the Z7X (711 and 715), Lancia under the ZN3J, Venturi under Z7U, Z7W and ZPJ4 units prepared by EIA.
