Alpine GTA Le Mans —
185 bhp catalysed, 210 at Danielson

The GTA Le Mans is the catalysed GTA V6 Turbo: the 2,458 cc Z7U 734, 185 bhp — or 210 bhp with the Danielson preparation, approved and sold by the dealer network. Danielson is an independent tuner, not a factory version: the distinction matters, and it is detailed on the Tuners page.

One code only: Z7U 734

The Z7U is the second-generation 2.5-litre turbo — the first turbocharged PRV, inaugurated in 1985 by the Renault 25 V6 Turbo. The 734 is its catalysed version fitted in the GTA Le Mans; the GTA V6 Turbo and Venturi 200's 730 gives 200 bhp, the American 732 gives 180.

A preparation, not a factory version

Danielson, approved by the network

PRV V6 tuners are independent companies — not to be confused with factory versions. What sets the GTA Le Mans' Danielson kit apart is that it was approved and sold by the dealer network: 185 bhp stock, 210 bhp prepared. For his part, Bernard Pierangeli, a figure of the Centre Alpine at Boulogne, from 1987 signed what is considered the most accomplished GTA V6 Turbo — 2.8 L and Garrett T3 turbo, around 250 to 265 bhp depending on the source.

Both files are on the Tuners page; the original GTA V6 Turbo has its own file.

The turbo line

From the R25 to the A610

The GTA V6 Turbo, the base

The GTA V6 Turbo's Z7U 730 — Garrett T3 rated at 0.95 bar, 200 bhp, 250 km/h — is the engine the 734 derives from; the manual tells it from the naturally aspirated one by type D 501.

The A610, the peak

The A610 moved to the 3.0-litre block — Z7X 744, 250 bhp — and crowned the line: 265 km/h and 5.9 s to 100 per the PRV brochure, against 250 km/h and 7 s for the V6 Turbo.

Four Alpines, four codes

The PRV brochure lines them up: A310 — 112-7, 2,664 cc; V6 GT — Z6W A700, 2,849; V6 GT turbo — Z7U 730, 2,458; A610 — Z7X 744, 2,975. Alpine never struck a code of its own: PRV codes are only ever Peugeot, Renault or Volvo.

What the FAQ says about the GTA Le Mans

The FAQ answers that concern the GTA Le Mans, its engine and its tuners.

Alpine GTA Le Mans The full FAQ →
Danielson
What is the Danielson preparation?
The dealer-homologated kit that took the Alpine GTA Le Mans from 185 to 210 bhp — one of the few officially sold PRV preparations. All tuners →
Moteurs
Which engines did the Alpine GTA use?
The naturally-aspirated 160 bhp Z6W-A, the 200 bhp Z7U 730 turbo, and the 185 bhp catalysed Z7U 734 on the GTA Le Mans (210 bhp with the Danielson preparation). A310 · GTA file →
Turbo
Which cars have a turbocharged PRV V6?
Six production models: Renault 25 V6 Turbo (2.5-litre, 182 then 205 bhp), Alpine GTA V6 Turbo (200 bhp) and GTA Le Mans (185 to 210 bhp), Venturi 200 (200 bhp), Venturi 260 (2.8-litre, 260 bhp) and Alpine A610 (3.0-litre, 250 bhp). The first was the Renault 25 in 1985, with the Z7U. Z7U file →
Codes
Which PRV engines did the four Alpines get, with their codes?
A table in the brochure lines them up, code and displacement: Alpine A310 — 112-7, 2664 cm³; Alpine V6 GT — Z6W A700, 2849 cm³; Alpine V6 GT turbo — Z7U 730, 2458 cm³; Alpine V6 turbo A610 — Z7X 744, 2975 cm³. The 1985 turbo is therefore the smallest of the four in displacement: forced induction, not capacity, made the difference — until the A610 took both. PRV Z7X-744 brochure, page 4. Library →
Puissance
How did the power of the PRV-engined Alpines progress?
The brochure's chart gives the four milestones, in EEC hp and torque: A310 150 hp (110 kW), 20.8 m-kg (204 Nm) — V6 GT 160 hp (118 kW), 23 m-kg (225 Nm) — V6 GT turbo 200 hp (147 kW), 28.6 m-kg (280 Nm) — A610 250 hp (184 kW), 35.7 m-kg (350 Nm). Average recorded consumption (town / 120 kph / 90 kph) dips then rises: 10.2, then 9.66, then 9.16 l/100 km, and 10.4 for the A610 — which therefore drinks barely more than the A310 while giving a hundred horsepower more. Performances
What performance does the brochure claim for the four Alpines?
Top speed, 0-100 kph, standing 400 m and 1000 m: A310 225 kph, 7.8 s, 15 s, 27.8 s — V6 GT 235 kph, 8 s, 15.5 s, 28 s — V6 Turbo 250 kph, 7 s, 14.5 s, 26.8 s — A610 265 kph, 5.9 s, 14.1 s, 25.7 s. PRV Z7X-744 brochure, page 4. Library →
Pierangeli
Who is Bernard Pierangeli?
A leading figure at the Centre Alpine in Boulogne: from 1987 he built what is regarded as the most accomplished GTA V6 Turbo — 2.8-litre and Garrett T3 turbo, around 250 to 265 bhp depending on sources. All tuners →
Injection
Which cars have a PRV V6 with electronic injection?
The norm from the 1980s onwards — some twenty models: Peugeot 505 V6, 605 and civilian P4, Renault 25 (atmo and Turbo), Safrane, Laguna, Espace, Volvo 760 and 780, Alpine GTA Turbo, GTA Le Mans and A610, the three Venturis, Citroën XM, Lancia Thema 6V, Dodge Monaco, Eagle Medallion and Premier.
