Why we did it
A restoration forum lives on its photos. For years, for want of anything better, members hosted them elsewhere, on free image hosts. Those hosts closed one after another: by the summer of 2026, of the 29,470 images cited in our posts, 13,646 were already dead. We rescued 23,000 of them just in time, by bringing them home.
The lesson was clear: the only photo that lasts is the one that is on the forum. It still had to be simple to put it there — and from a phone, it was not.
What changes, under the text box
When you write a post, a new area now sits under the text:
“Add photos” opens your camera roll directly; you pick several at once. On a computer, you can also drag your photos anywhere onto the form.
Each photo appears at once as a thumbnail, even before it is sent, then switches to “Sent”. If the network drops on the way, it is marked “Refused” and a Retry button sends it again as it is.
One tap on a thumbnail inserts it into the post, where you are writing. “Insert all” puts them all one after the other, one per line, in the order you took them.
“Submit” is right there too, within thumb's reach. It waits quietly for the last photo to arrive.
While a photo is being sent, you can add others: they queue up.
THREE MOVES — ADD, LOOK, PUBLISH
What we handle for you
Phone formats are accepted. The iPhone's HEIC, Android's WebP, JPEG, PNG — everything becomes an ordinary JPEG, readable everywhere.
Photos are downsized before sending, to 2,400 pixels on the long side. A 6 MB photo leaves at under 1 MB: fast on 4G, and light for those who will read the topic on their phone.
Metadata is removed, including the GPS position. A photo taken in your garage no longer says where your garage is.
Orientation is respected: a photo taken upright stays upright.
Up to 20 photos per post, 12 MB each at most — far beyond what a phone produces once downsized.
In the published post, the photos are shown full size, at the width of the text — no more small framed thumbnail to click on.

And if it does not work?
phpBB's classic “Attachments” tab is still there, with its “Add files” button. And if something resists, say so on the forum: that is how all of this was built — the first version was tried one Sunday afternoon from an iPhone, and corrected three times before the evening.
